 Attn:  Symphonic Band students and parents:  I am planning to have zero period Symphonic Band rehearsal on the 1st day of school.  Please plan to be there.

 Symphonic Band

a. Meeting Time: Monday through Friday during zero period.

Concert Performance Uniform- (Provided with band material fee) -  black pants, black shoes, black socks, green and white jacket, white gloves, green beret.  Students should wear a white t-shirt under the jacket.  Students will wear the Union Band t-shirt with blue jeans in some, less formal performances.  Symphonic Band meets zero period, Monday through Friday.  

e. Class Description/Prerequisites- Symphonic Band is the showcase performing group at Union Middle School and is available to any grade, but by audition only.  Students must already play a band instrument and be available to perform in 10-12 performances per year.  

 Jazz Band
a. Meeting Time: Monday through Friday during second period.

d. Uniform- Jazz band generally performs in home concerts in either nice clothing or in the uniform that they perform in if they are in one of the other bands.  At festivals, the students are asked to dress semi-formal.  Dress shirts, slacks, dress shoes.  Girls may wear dresses or a skirt and a blouse.  The jazz band may choose to purchase a group shirt.  

e. Description/Pre-requisites- Jazz Band was a before school club but for the first time at Union Middle School is being offered as an elective course during second period each school day.  This group performs at an intermediate to advance level, and is for 7th and 8th grade musicians that have a minimum of one full year experience on their instrument. 

6th Grade Intermediate Band

a. Meeting Time: Monday through Friday during 5th Period

c. Concert Performance Uniform- (Provided with band material fee) - white pants, white shoes, green blazer, white ascot.  Students should wear a white t-shirt and white socks under uniform.  Students will wear the Union Band t-shirt with blue jeans in some, less formal performances. 

d. Class Description/Prerequisites - Intermediate band is a 6th grade intermediate level group that meets 5th period.  This band usually performs in concerts combined with the 7th and 8th grade Concert Band. Students should have approximately one or more years of experience playing on a band instrument.  In some instances, students with more or less experience may also perform in this band, depending on their ability.  There are also students who may have never performed on a band instrument, but are a very quick study because of many years experience playing a non-band instrument, such as violin and piano.  These students may or may not be ready for the intermediate level.  

Beginning Band
 
a. Meeting Time: Monday through Friday during 6th period.

d. Concert Dress- Boys are asked to wear nice pants, a buttoned/collared shirt and dress shoes for all concerts.  Ties are not necessary, but are welcomed, as are nice sweaters.  Girls are asked to wear a nice dress or a skirt and blouse for all concerts. 

e. Class Description/Prerequisites- Beginning Band is a 6th period class that meets every day for 6th grade students and occasionally 7th and 8th grade students whose schedule allows them to take the class.  This class is geared for students that have either played an instrument, but not a band instrument, or a student with no music or instrument experience whatsoever.  Essentially, beginning band is an introduction to music and band.

                           Winter/Spring - Tuesday and Thursday after school 3:00 - 4:30, January through April
